Geer Karabekian Concept Art

Concept art for the series’ own lil’ sociopath. Nothing’s surlier than a kid wearing a hoodie with the hood pulled up, and Geer Karabekian is one surly customer. A lack of modern orthodontia makes him him look pretty funny and red hair reflects his Irish-Armenian heritage. I worked out a couple sketches.

I immediately liked the upturned, piggish nose better than the honker. The limp hair was a bit too reminiscent of Orly’s limpid locks, so I went with the mass of curls. They’ll make a nice bushy poof on the top of his head and set off his freckles.

On to clothes. I’d already drawn him with the hoodie, so I figured I’d give him something absurd to wear below the belt. White and green running shorts and some sneaks. The kid’s got no fashion. The squirrel and match were ok, but I they could be improved.

A second sketch along the same lines. A bit more dynamic, but I thought I’d use a slightly different pose for the final sketch.

Now he looks like he’s torching that squirrel for attention, not just plain ole’ fashioned sadism. That’s the kind of feel we wanted for Frown Town. He’d do anything for you. Anything.
